She resided there a long time before we ever moved there in 1954 when I was one year old. Originally from East Orange, NJ., she lived there with her husband, Jack, a WWI Veteran, and her brother, Freddy Heilbronn. Freddy never married. They were basically poor people who lived in an uninsulated bungalow heated by coal and kerosene stoves in the winter, cooled somewhat by portable fans that basically just moved the intense upstairs heat around. The primitive bathroom at the rear of the house was added later when the concept of an outhouse was becoming less fashionable. My house was a similar type bungalow that my dad took out an additional small mortage on to make the place livable year round. It still had the outhouse sidewalk leading to the structure when we moved in. It was my tricycle raceway the whole time until I could get up on two wheels.

I was aware of Jack, Anna, and Freddy, but I was only four, so I was never really able to carry on a conversation with Jack, a large and robust man with large suspenders as I remember. The reason was that he backed up into the huge coal stove in the kitchen one day in 1958, which lead to his death from a massive heart attack. Then it was just sister and brother, Anna and Freddy on their own. I got to know Freddy somewhat, as I would see him sitting in the front window when I would come home on my bike. It was then that I would visit Anna and Freddy now and then, but that run was short lived. Freddy passed away in his sleep in 1960 when I was seven. I would visit Anna regularly later on, developing my taste for and learning to love coffee. She basically lived on Sanka coffee along with jelly and margarine on pumpernickel bread, since her doctor had declared butter illegal as part of her diet. Anna passed away in 1964 when I was ten, and it was then I really learned the heartbreak of losing a good friend.

Back in 1992, I stopped by to visit their final resting places while on a Northeast tour. When I inquired at the office to look up the name Anna Eberle, there was no record of her to be found. They said she wasn't there. I was mortified and begged to differ since I was at her funeral at age ten, witnessing her being lowered into the ground. I did find Jack's location and I knew Anna was in there. I was shocked to find that there was nothing but blank space marking theirs and Freddy's plots. That was twenty-five years ago from this writing.

Jump ahead to early 2017 with my disapproval of their being unaccounted for eternity still circulating. I decided to call Fair View Cemetery to inquire about getting markers for both plots. The price would have totaled about $2500.00 to create the markers and have them installed on foundations to keep them from sinking into the ground. That, along with approximately the $900.00 cost of engraving put that venture way out of my price range., At least I was glad to know as a result of my phone call that Ann Eberle was now listed in the books and accounted for.

Now I'm again in New Jersey during the the summer of 2017 hanging with some early friends and band mates in between solo dates on a summer solo tour, and I decide that I am going to revisit the situation. In explaining my story of knowing these people since early childhood to the superintendent of the cemetery, he agreed that it wasn't right for them to be unaccounted for. Since Jack was a WWI veteran, he and his family should be acknowledged. Out of their kindness and understanding of this situation, Fair View Cemetery in Red Bank, NJ said they are willing to donate and place the markers free of charge.

Jack, and wife, Anna Eberle are buried in one unmarked grave. Her brother, Freddy, is in another a short distance away. They were good people, and I'm tired of knowing that they have been lying in their graves unmarked and forgotten about for nearly 60 years. Thankfully, that's about to change. I wrote and recorded the song about Anna entitled, THE BALLAD OF ANNA EBERLE, who was a good friend. It will be released commercially soon. While visiting their plots, I found a wayward American flag lying under a bush, so I placed it over Jack and Anna's unmarked grave that you can see here, which will be marked soon. There is no next of kin, so I may be the only one in the world that remembers them. If you would care to contribute, the help needed here is to offset the $900.00 cost of the two markers for three good but simple people that deserve to be remembered. Anything is appreciated. The driver's side door lock went out and needed to be replaced on my 09 Chevy Silverado Pickup. The part is referred to as a door lock actuator. When purchasing this part, it is one unit containing the actuator and the door lock for approximately $185.00. That's easy enough to understand.

In speaking to the service writer at Day Chevrolet in Acworth, GA, he tells me me that they would need to diagnose the problem to see if it is the lock or the actuator that is faulty. Why would that matter if both parts are one unit? If the door lock isn't working, and the remedy is to make the repair with the one part that serves two functions, why the extra wasted conversation?

What could have been a simple answer in saying that the unit would need to be replaced because it all is the same part would have been sufficient. With his useless diagnostic answer. Instead of a satisfactory simple answer, I now have more questions. Does that mean you are going to fix the bad section of the single part and charge me less, or are you going to waste my time, and probably charge more money in running a bogus diagnosis? Or is the one part really two parts and you don't really know what you are talking about?

He then said there would be twenty cars ahead of me, and that if I left the vehicle, he might have it done by the same time a day later. That was an understandable option. The cost to install the part; however, would be $150.00. In that case, I bought the part for $165.00 at the dealership, with the nice parts guy giving me a discount. I then went to my buddy, Doug, at G&S in Kennesaw, GA. He had me in and out in under two hours for $90.00, and he didn't have to diagnose anything.R. <span style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">Thinking about my dad, Brooks Wilson, who would have turned 88 today, January 9. I lost him way too early back in October of 1995. This is the song I wrote and recorded about him entitled <span style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">I DON'T WANNA COME BACK. https://youtu.be/Xq5CUc3FH1I<span style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">.

To me, his intelligence was unsurpassed by none. I will <span class="text_exposed_show" style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; display: inline; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">eventually publish some of what he wrote, and will probably use some of it in future songs. As it is, I just thought I would share this little excerpt he had written back in late 93 to early 94.

<span class="text_exposed_show" style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; display: inline; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">
He titled it:
STRANGE NEW PARADIGM, or THE NEW WORK ETHIC.
Instead of striking out on your own and working to make yourself rich, as an individual- destroying the country in the process by selling it out from under your neighbors' feet- it would seem to be more sensible to work together with your neighbors to make your country rich, as a whole, and all share in the benefits of your combined labors. It seems possible that everyone could have, almost literally, everything he could ever want, to live a decent, comfortable, enjoyable life on a happy blue planet he had helped to carve out of what, not long before, had been a world of misery and anger. On the day mankind disappeared, the earth never missed a beat. By the end of the next fleeting century, every trace of modern civilization had crumbled to dust, and the great pyramid yawned and went back to sleep.

That Is The Question

<span style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;">

<span style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;">While this subject is away from any music topic, and that I am really spending more time writing about it that I ever thought I would, this workshop reorganization <span style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;">really required focusing elsewhere in order to make this garage great again. It has and will have a trickle down effect into everything I do in life and in my career. The clutter and disorganization was getting way out of hand. Part of it stemmed from having to empty out my folks house in Jersey back in the late 90's that they lived in for over 40 years. Everything I ever did in this garage to this point was either makeshift or temporary. It would work well for a while, but then it would change and then escalate into utter confusion.

<span style="color: #1d2129; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;">My project began by permanently installing a 20 foot workbench that would give me an ample and clean workspace. This concept was preached to me by my dad years ago. He was a mechanical designer that would sit for hours at a drawing board, uncluttered of course, and could sketch out details on blueprints designing machinery that I would put up against any computer printout. That being said, he embraced technology way before many of us even knew what the term meant. He bought an early Radio Shack computer, which almost sent my mom over the edge. He was learning DOS as fast as it developed and had one of the first Compuserv and AOL accounts. He warned me that everything I did in my life later on would be originating out of this, pointing to spec in a diagram, which he explained as being a computer chip. It seemed like a long way off for me at the time to take it seriously. That was in the 60's. When the 80's showed up, I was forced to take it seriously. But I digress.

<span style="color: #1d2129; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #1d2129; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;">I learned the concept of itemizing small items into labeled bins and drawers from my dad, of which I still have much work to do in that department. The ones he filled up are still with me and are like time capsules, along with his meticulously hand written compartment labels that are steadily fading as the years pass. He always knew where every single tool, nail, screw, washer, and bolt was. He could venture into his little workshop in the front room of our house and either repair, construct, or repurpose anything. I always stood in amazement.

<span style="color: #1d2129; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;">No money was spent for this undertaking except for the one sheet of 4'x8' plywood ripped down the middle, one sheet of 2'x4' plywood, and the 2x6x12's. I already had the 2x4's. .All of the bins and containers and bins were already here, but in different locations. If I needed something here, it was always over there and vice versa. The wooden drawers to the lower right were from my childhood bedroom and were looking for a permanent home aside from a thrift store. Anyone can do this by just incorporating what you may already have around your home and bring it all in together. I guess I could have a second career as a professional organizer, but the last thing I need at this stage of my life is something else to do. While some think that much of this points to OCD, it is really only a simple desire to concentrate on one project at a time in an uncluttered work space with the necessary tools within reach. Also, if you return the tools and materials to the proper location after use, the disarray won't return. It was such a pleasure last night to make a simple repair to an electrical cord and not have to reinvent the wheel to do it. Now I must look for more things to fix, but I think they will have no trouble finding me.

Heard some great songwriters and also Rich Fagan, who had hits for George Strait, John Michael Montgomery, and others. The show, Nashville, has taken this place over the top. Folks who never had a clue about the BB, or music for that matter, are driving up in lines to take photos of themselves at the place as they would at Disney, the Southernmost Point in Key West, or the Grand Canyon. While many clubs are trying to figure out how to get customers with karaoke, D.J.'s, and tired sounding classic rock bands, it is wonderful to see folks waiting for hours to pile in to see and hear songwriters they have never heard of playing songs they've never heard. The Bluebird has always been successful as the top songwriter venue and has launched many successful careers. It is also a beautiful thing that the BB requires customers to shut the hell up while the writer is performing, something that the general clueless population just doesn't understand as they blatantly spew idle chatter in endless bars everywhere while musicians are rudely ignored. In the meantime, I'll just keep writing and recording songs minus the bling-bling. Who knows... maybe you might even hear one. Speaking of bling-bling... I did step in some once and had a bitch of a time kicking it off my boots.R. The Roger Wilson Guitar Studio Story

June of 2013 marks the 40th anniversary
of the Roger Wilson Guitar Studio of Atlanta, Georgia. My first location was at
220 Pharr Road in the Buckhead neighborhood of North Atlanta, from 1973 to
1980. It was then located at 2796 Piedmont Road from 1980 until 1985. The
business operated full-time during that period, but is still in existence today
in Kennesaw, GA as an online forum. During the 12 years in Atlanta that the
brick and mortar location existed, I had
the pleasure of teaching guitar to hundreds of people that passed through the
doors at both locations. The story of the studio is an interesting one. In
early 1973, I was attending college in my home state of New Jersey, but I wanted
to return to Georgia after having attended high school there at Woodward
Academy in College Park from 1967 to 1972. I had already been exposed to and
was now saturated with the desire to pursue music as a lifetime career. A
friend made a few phone calls for me to look for any possible music oriented
job opportunities, and contacted a gentleman named Sidney Ayscue, who owned and
operated the Buckhead Music Studio in North Atlanta. I spoke with Sidney
several times on the phone and I decided to head back to Atlanta and make a go
of this potential opportunity. When I arrived back in Atlanta in June of 1973
at age 19, Sidney allowed me to move into a room in the studio by agreeing to
try to expand, but realistically to build a guitar teaching business. My only
teaching experience was about 6 months at a little music store in Matawan, New
Jersey, while my knowledge of the guitar and music was already that of 10
years. Sidney and I named our new operation the Atlantis Music Studio, which
placed it in the "A" section of the Yellow Pages. Sidney and I worked
together for about a year before Sidney was starting to lose interest in
teaching and wanted to change his life's direction. One day in August of 1974,
while sitting at my desk in my small studio, the phone company called inquiring
about the phone bill, which was apparently overdue. When I explained to the
gentleman on the phone the situation of lately not seeing my partner, Sidney,
around for a few days, the writing on the wall was evident that I had to make a
quick decision. I was then a year into teaching fulltime, and I was making an
OK living teaching guitar lessons. I still needed the phone, but I would have
to open a new account, under a new name. The phone company guy stated that the
Atlantis Music Studio account was now delinquent and asked me what name I would
like to use. In having to make a split second decision, I told the gentleman to
open the account under "The Roger
Wilson Guitar Studio". As I said that, the words seem to fall out like a 2
ton boulder. It sounded really weird. Being all of 20 years old, I wondered who
in the world would ever take me seriously. The next day, I walked around the
corner to the phone company and put down the $50.00 deposit, which seemed like
a fortune at the time, on the new phone service. From that day on, the journey
began.

While I had been teaching each
of my students the traditional approach of reading music, it was apparent to me
that it was a tedious method. Some related to it OK, and some just weren’t
looking to be that serious about it. One day, a kid showed up for his lesson
with an electric guitar and a record album. He had no idea of any guitar basics.
I don’t recall the album he brought, but it may have been Led Zeppelin IV. I do
remember it was a song, probably Black Dog, that he wanted to learn.

After explaining to him that
he really needed to learn to learn some basic technique before taking on any
advanced material. He said, “Yea, I know… but just show me something on this
album I can have fun with”. While I was
tuning up to the song, I guess I played one of the song’s signature licks. He
said excitedly, “Show me that, show me that! After trying to eek out the part I
showed him for about the last 20 minutes, he promised to go home and practice
it until he had it perfected for the next lesson. When he left, I remember that
was grinning from ear to ear. I sat there stunned wondering what had just
happened. After that, my phone never stopped ringing, and kids were carpooling 4
at a time in their parents’ cars to come take guitar lessons from “the guy that
will teach you what you want to learn… and make it fun”. I always loved it when
they left happy, having fun, and of course, telling their friends. Thanks for 40 years!
